Often times, there are long periods when you cannot seem to get enough business. Perhaps you want to build your business so you can quit your awful but necessary day job. Perhaps you want to know people need and value enough to send their friends/relatives. Regardless of why you are working for yourself, it can be discouraging in the beginning if you do not have regular sessions. To feel motivated to persist, you need something to encourage you. Research online articles that give you ideas for attracting new clients. Keep in touch with people who used your services and expressed appreciation. If they have not referred anyone, it could be because they are busy or misplaced your phone number. (if you want more coaching on how to do keep-in-touch calls, call me 928.772.6826 MST) Ask friends and family to encourage you when you are feeling discouraged. Give away a few sessions here and there, especially if you know of a gathering of people who meet regularly. It is ideal to get in front of a captive audience that you did not have to organize yourself. I love helping people with no-cost or low-cost ways to build your business. Do something often to get yourself in front of new people. If you have the time, get in front of new people a few times a week (nothing wrong with more often than that). See my prior posts on this blog "Steady Flow of Clients to Your Private Practice" parts 1 and 2. Persist even in the face of slow periods. Keep marketing your private practice. As you find ways to keep going, and you believe in what you are offering, your business will grow over time.

Blessings to you,

Debby Taylor
Angel Communicator
CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Your Private Practice in a Troubled Economy

Many people are talking about how difficult it is to keep a healing arts business going in this troubled economy. Here is a tip to help you rev up your private practice.

Though I have shared the following on a previous post, it merits repeating. Referrals from satisfied clients is the easiest way to get new client sessions. Plus, staying in touch with people who have used your services is very important. You could send e-cards by computer, real postal mail as your budget allows, newsletter or other information by email which is enriching to your clients, phone calls to check on whether client numbers change, and any other way your imagination can devise. Offer a session with a discount when a client sends you a referral. Offer a free session when a client has sent you many referral s.

And if you need more help I have a more extensive collection of suggestions for building a private practice in the healing arts. Email me so I can send it to you, free.

DTConsult@cableone.net

And go to my blog archive to find other articles to help you in your private practice!

Please leave a comment on this post. I hope you feel as good looking at this photo as I do! Now I'll get down to business again.

One of the most important requirements for success in any business is visibility. If people do not know about you - if people cannot find you - you cannot have success and growth. Large companies have enormous advertising budgets. Shrewd design and placement of advertising brings people to their products and services because the ads are viewed. Visibility. As the proprietor of your private practice, you need to market or promote in some way(s) so you can gain visibility.

In an ideal world, I would prefer to do all of my promotion face to face - demonstrations; lectures; short talks in front of small or large groups who gather regularly; offering flyers that people actually get to see and read. I like personal networking better than sitting at the computer. But in our modern world, it is wise to use the vast array of free marketing available.

Setup a free blog. There are many free ways to get visibility with your blog - go to authority sites in your field and leave comments on their blogs, asking for them to add your blog to their blog list - list your blog on blog directories - 'ping' your blog once a week to get more links in the search engines - write articles on article sites - add links for your articles on your blogs so when you 'ping' you get even more references to the articles. Post ads on free classified sites like Craigslist.com,Backpage.com, and Inetgiant.com (there many, many others). There are even more places to get free exposure many of which I would like to do but seem to lack time for them weekly.

Set up a website and offer something free or discounted to new clients. Of course, websites are not usually free. But there are free sites for submitting your website address to many search engines at once. Search for online directories for your field where you can list yourself, your services and your web addresses.

I am certain that what I know is only the tip of the iceberg for free marketing for your private practice. I would love to help you. Email me if you want more of the how-to, web addresses and other details of what I discuss in this post.

Please leave a comment on this post. And go to my blog archive to find other articles to help you in your private practice!

Wishing you prosperity,

Debby Taylor 928.772.6826 Arizona time

DTConsult@cableone.net

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Boost Your Business in Hard Times

I have had many challenges with my computer lately. So I regret that I have not been able to post recently.

There are many practitioners who are finding it more difficult to build their business in tough economic times. If you or someone you know is going through this now, do not let this get you down. I have some tips to help you.

Add value to your service. Spend a bit more time talking to any client or prospective client. People will form a steadier relationship with you as you demonstrate that you really care about them. Find some e-book or e-books to offer your clients. If you do massage, give clients a free sample of lotion. Perhaps you could start an email newsletter. Regardless of your modality, find a way to give something to your clients or prospective clients that distinguishes you from others. Perhaps you could give a free lecture or lecture series that would combine educating people about what you do with some genuinely helpful guidance about something they may need help on.

Evaluate how you relate to your clients and potential clients. Perhaps you could do phone consultations, post that on your website or blog, and offer a toll free number for people who are far from you. If your business requires people in your community, would you be willing to take your service to a client's home when they cannot come to you? Can you offer a discount for first-time clients? Or could you print out discount coupons for clients to give their friends?

If anyone reading this needs some helpful advice for any challenge with your business, let me know. I wish you all the best with your work.

Debby Taylor
DTConsult@cableone.net

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Helping You Build Your Private Practice

If you are a self-employed healing arts practitioner, a psychic or anyone planning to build a private practice in alternative modalities,

PLEASE CHECK THE BLOG ARCHIVE ON THE SIDEBAR DOWN AND TO THE RIGHT OF THIS POST

I have created many useful posts over the last several months for those who need help with building a private practice.

Also, I welcome your comments to any post. For seventeen of those years these offerings have been my full-time work.

For the most part, it has been quite delightful being self-employed over this time. Before I went full-time, I had my moments of anxiety about cash flow. But once I went full-time, I have never had any financial hardship. I even remember when I stopped feeling fear in my gut about having enough money. To be my own boss has it's challenges at times. But mostly it is incredibly freeing.

Of course, I attribute my continuous success partially to the secrets I learned about marketing in the healing arts. Some tips from those secrets are in my posts below. More are in my e-course, discussed in a post just below here. Also, I attribute my continuous success to the fact that my Soul wants me to do the work I do. I am grateful to Creator for leading me to ways to create full supply.

Enjoy reading my other posts. If you know others who are in this field, send them a link to this blog. May you enjoy wonderful success in all you do!

Debby Taylor

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

E-Course for Building a Private Practice

Hello readers!

Some of you will be happy to learn that I am working on an e-course to help self-employed healing arts practitioners promote themselves. A marketing course for people with holistic and other spiritual practices.

Could you use more clients?

Could you use suggestions to become more visible in your community?

Could you use ways to encourage more repeat business from past clients?

Could you use help determining how you wish to present your services?

Could you use help regarding avoiding burnout?

Expect this and a whole lot more to support you in your own healing arts business when you participate in my e-course. Since the course work will be entirely through email, each person is free to complete the course at different times of the week, according to the dictates of her/his schedule.

I am still working on the details. So far, I am planning to divide the e-course into 4 parts or modules. Materials to read and implement will be sent out every two weeks. So each of 4 modules will go out every other week. Skipping a week gives busy participants more time to read, study, absorb and apply each module.

Of course, I address all questions from participants by email throughout the time of the ecourse.

Who should take this e-course? Anyone who is planning to start a healing arts business or who has already begun building a private practice.

I plan to charge only $198.00 per person for the whole e-course.

Give it some thought! Email or call me if you have some interest.

Debby Taylor
DTConsult@cableone.net
928.772.6826

Obtaining Referrals

Many practitioners would not consider asking for referrals. Some might consider it rude. Not so. It is common practice to ask for referrals. The easiest way to get new clients who are genuinely and seriously interested in your services is by referrals from satisfied clients. In a previous post, I spent only a paragraph on referrals.

“Referrals from satisfied clients are the best\easiest source of new business, but may not be enough to keep you going financially until you have a large client base. Remember to ask a client to tell others about you. Some people may think you are not accepting new clients if you do not mention this. I have had clients who ask me “do you mind if I give out your phone number”. Do not assume any client is thinking like he is a healing practitioner.”

Of course, I should have added to the end of the last line “… who needs to market himself.” The average client is not thinking in terms of marketing. If you are building a private practice, it is imperative that you accept the fact that you need to sell yourself. This includes asking for referrals. If you feel reluctant to do this, sit down with pen and paper to find the underlying cause of your reluctance. Ask yourself, “Why do I feel this way? Do I feel like it looks greedy to ask for more business from someone who has paid me? (it will not look this way to a happy client – most people are interested in helping you.) Do I feel like they will not want to give me a friend’s phone number – as if it is too private? (they usually want to get a referral’s permission anyway) Do I feel weak when it comes to asking for any kind of help in my life, period? (you could get some short-term therapy for that – or a life coach) Whatever you ask yourself, just start writing on paper what you are feeling about this. Chances are the truth about what is behind your reluctance will come out as you write.

When should you ask for referrals? When you have completed a session with a client, you can say, “I just want you to know I am open to referrals. Referrals are an important part of sustaining my practice. If you know anyone, please feel free to give her my card, or call/email her with my contact information. Thank you so much!” Also, you can follow up by phone a few days or a week after the session to see how she is doing. Ask for referrals the same way as in person. If you already asked in person, after a follow up call, you could simply suggest that she puts your email address in her e-address book so she can offer it to friends, relatives and associates. Or, if you wish, you can wait to follow up by phone until a few months have passed as a way to keep your name in front of them and as a way to ask for referrals again. Also, you can suggest referrals by email or by a post card. As long as you are not asking repeatedly day after day, week after week, clients will not mind if you ask for referrals from time to time.

When someone new contacts me for a session, I always ask how he found out about me. If a client referred him, I note this in my records. Then I thank the person who did the referring. It is very important to acknowledge people for the kindness of mentioning you to people they know.

Some practitioners like to offer monetary incentives for referrals – like a free session for so many referrals. That is up to you. I find it challenging to have something else to keep track of. I usually do this only for clients who ask for it. I have never tried offering a dollar reward for a referral. Though not part of my experience, you could possibly find that by offering a $ reward, you would get more referrals. Alternately, you could offer a free copy of a book that you have for sale (e-books are not difficult to put together).

Blessings to you for continuous prosperity!

Debby Taylor,RH
Angel Communicator
Hypnotherapist

DTConsult@cableone.net

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Steady Flow of Clients to Your Private Practice - Part 3

One of the most important factors for your success as a self-employed healing arts practitioner is visibility. That means that, in addition to referrals, you need to get your name and understanding of your services in front of new people regularly. Building a private practice takes a willingness to sell yourself.

In a prior post, I mentioned giving a very short presentation to captive audiences that could be interested in your healing services. Now I suggest that you might consider giving a longer lecture with a free demonstration. If you feel uncomfortable talking in front of people, perhaps you could collaborate with another healing arts practitioner for support. Your lecture topic should be about something related to your practice that would be interesting enough to draw new people in like “Secrets of Pain Management”. Or something like “Does Alternative Medicine Work or Is It A Scam?” or “Why On Earth Would Someone Get A Therapeutic Massage Every Month?”

You could put a press release out to local papers (2 wks prior to the event) for a Friday night talk at a public room you reserve in advance. Libraries, bookstores, recreation centers, senior citizen centers, retirement communities, churches, and health clubs sometimes have community rooms or meeting rooms available. Also check out restaurants, beauty salons, civic associations, and ladies auxiliaries. As you promote your private practice, you might be able to help build traffic for others.

Keep the evening to around two hours. Perhaps dedicate 1 ½ hrs to your lecture and demonstration, then ½ hour for questions. Remember to promote yourself often during such events. Mention your fees for private sessions, any classes you offer, and pass out business cards and other promotional materials. Get folks to sign in at the door with name, postal address, phone and email address.

As a self-employed healing arts practitioner, you can build your private practice by offering free demonstrations of your healing services regularly.

If you have any questions about offering such an event feel free to email me at
DTConsult@cableone.net

I wish you great abundance in your private practice!

Debby Taylor,RH
Angel Communicator
Hypnotherapist

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

The Ongoing Private Practice

My posts have often been geared to help beginners. Now I aim to help the healing arts practitioner who has been in business for a while.

Perhaps you feel successful. Perhaps you do not. Either way, there are some unique challenges to the ongoing private practice. Keeping up with detail work, returning calls, marketing yourself, and providing services can be challenging to juggle. Doing this day after day, year after year, requires a true commitment to what you do and a steady level of personal energy, especially if you do not have office staff.

There have been times in my 20-year career that I utilized a secretary for some detail work like keeping track of people’s postal addresses/phone numbers and email, making forms needed for group events, making flyers, etc. When I was just starting out, a massage therapist advised me to do the marketing and returning phone calls myself. I cannot remember what she said her reasoning was. But I have recognized over these years that it has to do with your energy. If you are the one who is setting up appointments and calling people to tell them or remind them of what you do, your energy projects to that person, making an important connection. Not that I think this is critical, but it seems to help with keeping the connection strong with your clients, especially if you do your service over the phone like I do.

Many an ongoing practice (like chiropractors) was built with receptionist and other office staff. If you work from home, and find yourself experiencing burnout, you might want to consider getting some help. If you cannot afford to pay someone, consider an exchange of services. If you charge $60. per hour for your service, and you would pay your helper $15. per hour, you could accumulate four hours of her service before offering an hour of yours. Of course, you could work out your exchange rate equivalency with your helper in some other way if you wish. You may not have space for an office staff of more than one. One can make a big difference, especially if your healing arts practice is growing rapidly.

In the future, I may be doing an e-course ( email course )on building and sustaining a private practice as a healing arts practitioner. Feel free to contact me at the phone or email below if you have an interest.

I welcome your comments to my posts!

Wishing you prosperity,

Debby Taylor
928.772.6826 MST
DTConsult@cableone.net

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Should I Have My Office At Home or Rent an Office?

Hey, first let me tell you that my home office does not look anything like either of these photos. And they are great for practicing the law of attraction, eh?

Ever since I have had my own private practice as an angel communicator, I functioned primarily from my home. I do the sessions for my clients in my home (by phone and in person), I have an office in my home for handling phone calls, computer and other detail work. Sometimes I have offered classes/training work from home.

Deciding how to set up the space for your upcoming private practice can be challenging. Some people put off beginning their practice because of roadblocks regarding space. I hope this blog post can help those of you who feel held back by space requirements.

Whether you run things from home or rent space elsewhere is a very personal decision. You might want to be away from home because children, spouse or pets distract you. You may want to work from home for convenience, saving time and saving gas. If you cannot afford the rent for an outside office, it may be that you have no choice but to work from home.

If you do not have an extra bedroom, basement or den for an office, you might be able to carve out space in your bedroom for a place for record keeping and returning calls. Of course, you would not bring clients to a bedroom. You could see clients in the living room, in a closed in porch, attic, or even in the kitchen, depending on what your service is.

Of course it is important to prepare the space to be clean, uncluttered, and welcoming wherever you see clients. Depending on your personality, you may want it to be homey, or you may prefer to have the environment come across with a more clinical or professional décor. Whatever your personal style is, never have clients come through or into a space that is dirty, messy, being renovated or consisting of dark, depressing colors and objects. Lack of money is no excuse here. For under $10. you could buy some colorful appointments at a local thrift store to cheer up a drab room – a dresser scarf, a lampshade, a few colorful pillows, a wall hanging . I guarantee you that you will lose clients if your space is dirty, messy or extremely dull. I know many people who have said they could not refer me to a practitioner because the house was so disgusting. I have heard people say they would not refer anyone they knew to a very good therapist they used because his space was dirty and always under renovation. If your renovation is temporary, just apologize and mention when it is likely to be finished. Obviously, you have to keep making a living during changes to your home.

If others live with you, communicate clearly about when they must remain quiet and not enter your client space. If you have an unsupportive partner, parent or child, rather than perpetuating arguments and bad feelings, you may want to consider sharing a space someone else is already renting at another location. If you are short on available funds, you could offer to clean the space regularly and thoroughly in exchange for specific scheduled times you use the space exclusively. Or you could offer to do some computer work for them. You might even be able to give your services in exchange for subleasing on certain days. Massage therapists need massages and energy work, too.

Wishing you prosperity,

Debby Taylor

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Business Card Checklist

Creating materials with which to promote your practice can be a daunting task for a beginning with little funds. Start with a business card. Even that can make you feel overwhelmed. What colors? What graphics? What content? I cannot make those decisions for you. But I will advise that it is best to see that your business card:

is printed on high-quality card stock

has the professional image you want associated with your business

has good contrast between card stock color and ink colors

has a prominent line clearly stating the formal title of your service

is easy to read – do not put too much on it – it should not be a brochure – do not include any definitions of your modality.

if you feel compelled to add something about your offerings, limit it to only a few BRIEF phrases about BENEFITS for the client

provides accurate contact information – check well for errors

includes your phone / website and email addresses

includes the address where you provide your service

has a logo or graphic that is relevant to your work

If you choose to use a company like VistaPrint.com (they charge only for shipping, not for the cards) know that you can either choose pre-fab card designs or you can add your own images.

Email me if you have any particular requests for posts to this blog.
DTConsult@cableone.net

I would love it if you would add comments to any of my posts.

Abundance to you,

Debby Taylor, RH

928.772.6826 MST

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY WORK WITH ANGELS

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Persistence with a Private Practice

Even in times when the economy was booming it could be difficult for holistic and others with a private practice to keep going. There was a time when after running an ad for over a year, with very few phone responses to the ad, I benefited from it in a different way. I was sitting at my table at a 3-day psychic fair in Pennsylvania in the early 1990’s. Throughout the entire event, people would come up to me to say, “Oh so YOU are Debby Taylor!” They said had seen my ad for the previous year. Everyone who said that wanted a reading. And many would tell their friends to come do a reading. I earned $750. doing readings during that fair.

As you can see, my display ad gave me name recognition. So I got visibility in the community as well as credibility.

Do not expect a dollar-for-dollar return for the cost of the ad from the new business it generates. I consider a single ad to be effective if you receive an average of 1-3 calls every two to three months and 0-3 new clients within 3-6 months while the ad is running. You may get better results with online resources like this one - click here.

People see your ad, tell others about you, or pass around the publication, but never call you themselves. As you establish a good reputation in other ways, people may point at your ad, telling others that they heard you do excellent work.

Wishing you prosperity,

Debby Taylor

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT MY EBOOKS
one of them is free

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Steady Flow of Clients to Your Private Practice – Part 2

As I mentioned before, visibility is critical for building a healing arts business. How else can you let people know about your work?

Most healing arts practitioners know to watch for holistic or health fairs where you rent a table for a day or a weekend. For this and all of the subsequent venues, it is important to have brochures, flyers, business cards, etc. It is especially important to have a signup sheet for people to give you their contact information. Name, postal address and phone are valuable. And most importantly, name and email address.

One of the simplest ways is to showcase your work in a friend’s home. Ask him if he would be willing to invite a few friends over for you to give a demonstration of what you do in your private practice. As you get more comfortable with this format, you might even decide to ask for donations – or give a suggested minimum donation for everyone to receive a sample session.

Another way to attract clients is to volunteer to be a “spotlight” speaker for a support group, meditation group, singles group, spiritual or other study group, senior citizens group, or other captive audience. If you don’t know of any such groups, ask friends and associates. Go to any recommended group to see if it is a place where you would want to attract clients. Speak to the facilitator before or after the meeting. The goal here is to ask for permission to share about your private practice for 5-10 minutes before or after a future meeting. If you are shy about speaking in front of people, you are only in the “spotlight” for a short time. It is important to realize that with a private practice you are selling yourself even more so than your service.

After you present any 5-10 minute spotlight promotion, pass around a clipboard for people to opt-into your email and postal mail lists. And, of course, pass out cards, brochures or flyers.

I would love to learn from email or in the comments session how these posts have helped you.

Debby Taylor, RH

DTConsult@cableone.net

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/

Steady Flow of Clients to Your Private Practice - Part 1

I know many people, each of whom runs a private practice from home or from an office. Whether you offer massage, energy work, psychic readings, aromatherapy, acupuncture, nutritional counseling or another form of healing arts therapy, you need to have a steady stream of clients. If not, your business will not sustain itself.

I plan to offer many posts to help my readers learn ways to bring in new clients and to encourage former clients to return as needed. Stay tuned. I love to help folks who want to build or start a private practice.

Referrals from satisfied clients is the best\easiest source of new business, but may not be enough to keep you going financially until you have a large client base. Remember to ask a client to tell others about you. Some people may think you are not accepting new clients if you do not mention this. I have had clients who ask me “do you mind if I give out your phone number”. Do not assume any client is thinking like he is a healing practitioner.

Beyond the realm of referrals, lots of visibility or exposure is the key. I have seen some healing arts practitioners use paid advertising very successfully. Others find it does very little for them. I am not an expert ad copywriter. That could be a key factor with advertising a private practice. However, I have often found it to be valuable to maintain at least one paid ad in a publication which has a readership you know is interested in your services. When people see your name repeatedly, the name recognition from that can bring you client credibility.

Of course, there are hundreds and hundreds of ways to get visibility on the Internet. That is beyond the intent of this blog, though I have some training in that regard.

If you have only started to build a practice and have a small email address book, ask the people in therein to share your messages with people they know who might be open to your offerings. Email them announcements of your services and perhaps a regular newsletter.

Contact with new people is critical for consistency of new business. I will be posting more suggestions for healing practitioners to increase visibility.

I would love to learn from you how any of my posts here has helped you.

Debby Taylor, RH
DTConsult@cableone.net

http://homelesscatcare.blogspot.com/
